Class List

Below are brief explanations of the classes used in MCHA. It's possible that not all of the classes listed would be held at all shows.

 

OPEN HORSE
Open to any horse regardless of breed or ownership; however, owners and riders must be members in good standing of the ICHA. Two horses may be ridden.

NON PROFESSIONAL
This class is open to non professional riders*.  Riders can ride 2 horses, as long as both horses are owned by the non pro rider. See definition of non professional rider below.

**A Non-Pro in this association is any person who has not shown, trained or assisted in training a cutting horse or cutting horse riders for remuneration, directly or indirectly, or has not been paid to work in any manner in the above named activities on the premises of a cutting horse training operation.

NOVICE HORSE
Open to any horse whose lifetime earnings in all cutting horse associations does not exceed the amount stated for the class (i.e.: $3,000, $5,000, $10,000). Riders can ride 2 horses.

NOVICE HORSE/NON-PRO
Open to any horse whose lifetime earnings in all cutting horse associations does not exceed the amount stated for the class (i.e.: $3,000, $5,000, $10,000). This class is open to non professional riders only. Riders can ride 2 horses, as long as both horses are owned by the non pro rider.

$2,000 LIMIT RIDER
Open to any non professional rider whose lifetime earnings in all cutting horse associations does not exceed $2,000. Rider can ride any horse.

$15,000 AMATEUR RIDER
Open to any amateur rider whose lifetime earnings in all cutting horse associations does not exceed $15,000. Horse must be owned by rider.

YOUTH RIDER
Points belong to the rider. Limited to riders 18 years of age or younger on January 1st of year. May ride any horse. Earnings count toward lifetime earnings.

RANCH HORSE
Some classes limit the earnings of the horse (i.e.: $1,000 Ranch) , while others limit the earnings of both the horse and rider (i.e.: $1,000/$1,000 Ranch). Riders may use one or two hands, but which ever method is chosen must be used for the entire class.

'NEVER CUT BEFORE' - NEW for 2018
This class was developed for the rider who has never shown a cutting horse before. Rider can ride any horse. 

 

All earnings do count towards lifetime earnings of the horse.
